5/17/2023 0 Comments Washing machine not spinningThe machine is washing, turning and draining seemingly ok now. When she got up to have a look, there was a plate in the sink covering the drainage and possibly blocking the natural action of the machine (?). It turns out that during the cycle when it ‘broke’, towards the end of the cycle my Wife could smell a very feint burning. I don’t (or didn’t) know anything about washing machines but I’ve done a few things that’ll hopefully help you to help me. My Wife had the washing machine on the other day and when I came home (I could tell by the look on her face something was wrong) she immediately said to me ‘the washing machine is broken’. I also wasn’t sure if it sounded slightly different when spinning but I don’t pay enough attention normally to know whether it is different or not. I’m reluctant to just go out and buy another machine just yet as it does seem to spin still. As soon as I put it on a normal cycle with clothes it fills with water but then doesn’t spin… I’ve checked and there are no other blockages that I can see/feel… it’s very odd. If I tip the machine over and take the drainage filter off then put it back on the machine starts spinning on a spin or rinse cycle. I can drain the water on the drain cycle and it doesn’t spin after that, regardless if there are clothes in or not. However as soon as I put some clothes in the cycle starts, fills with water then I can hear the click to start spinning but nothing happens and the cycle shows as finished shortly after. I then put the machine on an empty spin cycle and this worked fine. Initially I found that there was quite a bit stuck in the filter so I have cleared this, I needed to take the drainage filter off from underneath the machine. I have a BUSH A147QS washing machine and the water doesn’t drain when doing a load. Watch our video on “How to Prevent a Washing Machine Spinning Noisily”, to see for yourself the surprising difference an unbalanced load can make to your machine. Unbalanced loads can also cause excessive noise during the spin cycle. And when you put your clothes in the machine, make sure they’re not tangled and bunched up. Washing just one towel with a lot of lightweight items, like underwear or t-shirts, will make it hard for the machine to spread the weight of the load evenly around the drum. Wash multiple heavy items, like towels, jeans or thick jumpers, in the same wash wherever possible. To prevent damage, modern machines will spin more slowly if the load is unbalanced, stopping and starting the spin cycle to try and redistribute the clothes.Īvoiding this issue in future is simple. It puts too much pressure on various parts connected to the drum, like the bearings and springs. Spinning a washing load fast, when it contains just one heavy piece of laundry, could damage the machine. If your washing machine drum is rotating, but won’t go into a fast spin cycle, the problem could be as simple as an unbalanced load. Help, my washing machine will only spin slowly! But if you do need to delve into the inner workings of your appliance we can help you with that too. You could find solving the issue is as simple as putting different combinations of clothes in the drum, or giving certain areas of your machine a good clean. Pay attention to the way your washing machine spins (or doesn’t as the case may be). What do we mean by that? Well, different problems with your spin cycle will have different warning signs. To work out why your washing machine won’t spin you first need to know exactly how it’s not spinning. Sound horribly familiar? Then it’s a pretty safe bet your washing machine isn’t spinning as it should. They may not even have been properly cleaned. You get to the end of the washing cycle but your clothes are still sodden wet. Ma| Laundry Appliance Repair, Help & Advice | How to Fix a Washing Machine that Won’t Spin
